About

The years go fast. The days don’t.

Magic Years is a free newsletter for parents and caregivers in the little-kid years, roughly birth through age 10: useful ideas for everyday parenting, things to do with your kids, and what’s on for families where you live.

It exists because the thing you need is too often buried in a forum, stretched into a thousand-word essay, or delivered with the quiet suggestion that you’re doing something wrong.

Every edition brings you things you can actually use: help with sleep, meals, big feelings and screens; words for the hard moments; ideas for what to do together; and what’s happening for families near you. Plus a Top 10 worth opening.

The years go fast. We do the digging so you can spend a little less time searching and a little more time in them.

When we recommend an event or place, we give you the details parents and caregivers actually need: what age it’s good for, what it costs, when it happens, where it is, and anything else worth knowing before you go. Because “fun for the whole family” is not information.

We write for the grown-up, not the child. You have a full life that happens to include raising kids, and there’s a good chance you’re reading this standing up.

What we promise

Short, on purpose. We get to the useful part quickly. If something doesn’t help with today or this week, it probably doesn’t belong.

No guilt, ever. No perfection theater. No implying you’re behind. No pretending every minute needs to be magical.

Paid is clear. If something is sponsored or we may earn money from it, we’ll tell you. Paid and affiliate recommendations still have to be useful enough to earn a place in Magic Years.

How it’s made

We pull from a range of sources, including public listings, venue and organization websites, published reporting, expert and practitioner guidance, research, and other useful source material. We check the details that matter, use the strongest sources available for the subject, and make complicated information easier to use.

For local events and places, that means checking practical details like timing, cost, age fit, location and where to go for the latest information.

For parenting topics, we aim to separate useful guidance from noise, avoid overstating what the evidence says, and point you toward qualified professional help when the subject calls for it.

Two things we won’t pretend: we don’t have a resident editor in every city, and Magic Years is not a substitute for medical or other professional advice. It feels local because the events, places and details are local, not because we claim to be somewhere we aren’t.
